Phllip Nagel

Philipp is a lawyer with extensive experience in advising public sector and corporate clients from various industries, notably the mobility, technology and life sciences sectors. He has held different positions at law firms and in-house in Germany, Belgium and the US. Before moving to Cape Town, he led the legal and sustainability department for the EMEA region at a US-based company in the new mobility space, aiming to make cities more equitable, greener and healthier. He holds a PhD in law from Bucerius Law School in Hamburg, Germany and a Masters degree in law from Georgetown University, Washington, DC.
Philipp is passionate about environmental philosophy, the human-nature dipole and interspecies justice and is keen on finding ways how the law can contribute to solving the polycrisis of climate change, biodiversity and habitat loss and environmental pollution that our planet faces. Philipp is currently pursuing a master´s degree in climate change and sustainable development at UCT. For his master thesis, Philipp investigates how the law accommodates the way non-human species adapt to the changing climate in the South African context."
