ST2025 Artists Embrace Stellenbosch

As the Stellenbosch Triennale 2025 unfolds, the town is alive with the energy of artists from South Africa, Mozambique, Namibia, DRC, the USA, Ethiopia, Benin, Brazil, and Zambia. More than just a showcase of creativity, ST2025 has become an opportunity for artists to connect, explore, and immerse themselves in Stellenbosch’s rich culture.

Exploring, Gathering, Creating

Daily walks through the oak-lined streets, visits to artisanal shops, and moments of quiet reflection have made Stellenbosch a source of inspiration. Local stores have provided unique materials that artists incorporated into their work, blending international perspectives with the essence of the town.

Food, Friendship & Local Hospitality in Stellenbosch

Stellenbosch’s vibrant culinary scene has been a gathering place for the artists - whether it’s dining at Stellenbosch Wine Bar, unwinding at De Warenmarkt, or soaking in history at Oom Samie se Winkel. These spaces have become hubs of conversation, collaboration, and cultural exchange and we encourage you all to enjoy the experiences shared by our artists:

  • De Warenmarkt: Situated in a cherished 18th century historical building at the heart of Stellenbosch's vibrant cultural district, De Warenmarkt is home to a collective of diverse merchants, each passionate about their craft.

  • Oom Samie se Winkel: Discover one of the oldest trading businesses in the Cape’s historic town of Stellenbosch, and wander through a vintage store that preserves the memory of a traditional trading post. Oom Samie’s been selling on the same premises for more than 100 years; where you can find everything from handmade goods and fresh produce, to a selection of South African spices and teas.

  • Stellenbosch Wine Bar: The Stellenbosch Wine Bar is home to The Stellenbosch Collection, a family of wine brands by Jean Engelbrecht. Relax under the Stellenbosch oaks and savour the village ambiance with a glass of wine and a snack. Explore wines such as Rust en Vrede, Afrikaans, Cirrus, Donkiesbaai, Guardian Peak, and Stellenbosch Reserve accompanied by shared Mediterranean-style plates - ideal for a swift business lunch or pre-dinner drinks.

A Gesture of Appreciation

Recognising the artists’ contribution, Stellenbosch Wine Bar, De Warenmarkt, and Oom Samie se Winkel have generously provided vouchers, allowing them to experience more of what the town has to offer. This gesture strengthens the bond between Stellenbosch and its visiting creatives, underscoring the town’s commitment to supporting the arts. The Stellenbosch Triennale team shares a heartfelt thank you to these establishments for your wonderful contributions.

Looking Ahead

With each passing day, ST2025 continues to unfold as a celebration of art, community, and cross-cultural exchange. Stellenbosch is not only the backdrop for this extraordinary event but a space where connections and memories are being made - ones that will last well beyond the Triennale.
